The KVOE listening area is set to experience its first significant heat event of the year this weekend and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of the area in response.
The advisory covers Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from noon Friday to 8 pm Saturday. The advisory reflects anticipated heat index values of 100 to 106 and with that in mind, residents are reminded to take precautions, starting with drinking lots of water and wearing light and loose-fitting clothes.
Residents should also try and move any strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours if possible.
