Emporia’s Underground Utilities crews made relatively short work of a water main break in northeast Emporia early Friday.
Crews were called out to the 1100 block of Topeka just after 6 am, finishing their work by 8:15 am.
Residents along Topeka between 12th to Ninth were offline as repairs continued.

Residents in an east Emporia neighborhood may be without water for a while Friday morning.
Crews were called out to the 1100 block of Topeka just after 6 am for a water main break. City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says homes in the area will be out of water service on Topeka from 12th south to Ninth, although the street is currently open to traffic. Other details are pending.
Friday’s water main break follows a separate water main failure in the 600 block of State from Monday evening.
