The Sertoma Club of Emporia is helping some residents get through the summer heat while getting victimized to a degree by another form of weather.
On Sunday, the club announced it and Sutherlands had partnered to provide 40 fans to the Emporia Salvation Army. Club President Vicki Brooks tells KVOE News this is a longstanding partnership with good reason.
Residents needing a box fan to make life more comfortable during the summer can stop by the office at 327 Constitution with proof of Lyon County address. Residents can call the Emporia Salvation Army office at 620-342-3093 with questions.
Meanwhile, the club’s miniature train at Soden’s Grove has not been able to resume its schedule because of flooding impacts dating back to June 3. Brooks says club members are getting a lot of questions about when the train can get rolling again.
The club first needs official approval from the city, and it needs dry conditions so equipment doesn’t damage parts of Soden’s Grove Park. The club then needs to schedule repairs with a contractor — meaning repair times are officially to be determined.
The normal train schedule is Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30-8:30 pm and Thursdays from 9-11 am.
