Summertime heat continues across the KVOE listening area this week, and there is a low-end chance of stronger storms returning Thursday. There may be a better chance of widespread heavy rainfall for part of the day.
The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal severe weather risk Thursday from late afternoon through at least mid-evening, thanks to a weak frontal boundary moving across the area. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are the main hazard.
The combination of abundant moisture, slow storm movement and the possibility of training — where new storms develop and move over the same territory as previous storms — could lead to heavy rainfall and at least isolated flooding. Heavy rain could last into early Friday, depending on the location.
More storms are unlikely but possible Friday into the middle of next week.
The KVOE listening area has already had two rounds of flooding this month. The most significant ran from June 3-11, and there are still several road segments in eastern Lyon County that are closed:
*Road 135 from V-6 to W
*Road 145 from V-6 to Neosho Rapids
*Road 150 from N to P
*Road V-6 from 135 to 140; from 140 to 145
*Road W from 123 to 135
Meanwhile, flooding returned June 16 and there are a few road segments south of Emporia that are still barricaded:
*Road 150 from J to K; from K to Kansas Highway 99
*Road 155 from F-5 to G
*Road 160 from G to H
*Road H from 160 to 165
*Road J from 140 to 150; from 150 to 160
*Road K from 140 to 150; from 150 to 155
KVOE and KVOE.com will have updates. If you have rain totals to report, message the KVOE Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863.
