Officially, work began earlier this month on the Southeast Waterline Transmission improvement project.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Emporia City Engineer Jim Ubert says things really get rolling this week.
Officially, work will extend from 12th and Garfield southeast to South and Carter. Work has actually started near Seventh and Garfield as crews work along Seventh from Arundel to Sunnyslope and on Garfield from Sixth to Ninth.
Work on Southeast will likely go through most of next year, with brand-new 20-inch pipe, service lines and other connections as part of the work.
The start of the Southeast work overlapped the end of the 24th and Prairie project, which took just over a year to complete. Ubert says the 24th and Prairie work was well-thought-out and it was needed, just given the age of some of the pipes that were replaced over the last 12 months.
Along with the 24th and Prairie and the Peyton Street projects the last two years, Ubert says the Southeast project helps to form Emporia’s “backbone” for reliable water service across town.
