Local Ham Radio operators will gather for an experiment this weekend.
Operators will conduct a 24-hour experiment from 1 pm on Saturday to 1 pm on Sunday at the Prophet Aquatic Research and Outreach Center.
Dr. Joseph Laudie says Amateur Radio Field Day is the biggest Ham Radio event of the year where over 30,000 operators across the United States come together and practice emergency communications. Laudie says the hope is to connect with operators across the US and even into Canada.
Laudie says his interest in becoming a Ham Radio Operator came from his father.
Laudie says the public is invited between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday to allow them to operate a Ham Radio. One thing that will be attempted this weekend, according to Laudie, is trying to contact an astronaut at the International Space Station.
