As flooding continues with devastating results in central Texas, Lyon County officials are still documenting the damage from two rounds of flooding across much of the county from last month.
Emergency Management Director Jarrod Fell says work is “still in the preliminary stages.”
Fell says there is time spent in preparing the information for the Division of Emergency Management. There is more time spent once FEMA gets involved.
Fell says Lyon County’s early efforts are concentrating on the first round of flooding.
Lyon County got 4-7 inches of rainfall June 3, triggering over a week’s worth of flooding and damaged roads after two prior rounds of heavy rain in May. Another 2-5 inches of rain fell June 17, setting off several days of river flooding.
There were several water rescues in Lyon and Chase counties during the flooding last month, but no deaths were reported. Texas officials, meanwhile, now say at least 110 people were killed and well over 100 are still missing after flash flooding developed early July 4.
