Last week, the Lyon County Commission gave its blessing for the Emergency Management Department to take advantage of a federal matching grant to both purchase and distribute weather alert radios. Plans are now in place to make those radios available to the public.
Lyon County says the radios will be available during the Lyon County Fair, with a focus on grandstand events. Weather permitting, the schedule is as follows:
*July 26: 5-7 pm
*July 27-29, Aug. 2, Aug. 7, Aug. 9: 5:30-7:30 pm
Four hundred radios are part of the better than $10,000 grant. The base amount for the federal financial amount is around $7,600, while the remainder is getting handled by Lyon County.
Radios will be available while supplies last at the Emergency Management trailer south of the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. There is a limit of one free weather radio per household.
