Work to bring QuikTrip to Emporia is going well, according to City Engineer Jim Ubert.
From the city standpoint, that deals with developing access to the site just west of the Flint Hills Technical College main campus.
Infrastructure work could be finished by early August, weather permitting. Meanwhile, groundbreaking for the convenience store is pending.
A new road is connecting to Graphic Arts just southwest of Flint Hills Technical College. On the west side of the work zone, a new roundabout is getting built immediately north of two established roundabouts connecting Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike to US Highway 50. Ubert says the roundabout is also set to connect to other developments nearby, depending on future activities.
The QuikTrip coming to Emporia has been listed as one of the chain’s biggest locations in the Central Plains once it is open to the public later this year. It is the only tenant with this development. Ubert has said other businesses interested in setting up shop near QuikTrip will have to present their own developments to the city.
