Coffey County Sheriff Tom Johnson is understandably quite pleased with the county’s new Law Enforcement Center in Burlington.
Johnson says this is a significant step forward for his department, as well as the County Attorney’s Office and jail.
Johnson says the new building helps to bring all law enforcement operations under one roof, with administrative services, investigations and the jail on the ground floor and County Attorney Wade Bowie’s operations on the second level.
According to Johnson, this also drastically enhances safety and security.
Coffey County officially began exploring a new combination law enforcement center and County Attorney’s Office in 2021. Voters approved the facility the following year. Johnson thanked voters for their foresight and support.
Residents had chances to tour the facility Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, move-in processes continue, with the Sheriff’s Office already moving over in early July and Emergency Communications moving in at this time. More moving processes will take place through the rest of the year.
