A teenager was hospitalized in Emporia after a rollover crash near Admire on Saturday evening.
Lyon County Deputy Tom Hardin says the crash happened just before 6:45 pm in the 3100 block of Kansas Highway 99, about four miles south of Admire. Hardin says deputies and first responders from Emporia/Lyon County EMS and at least one other agency found a vehicle in a ditch near the intersection. All three people were out of the vehicle by the time first responders arrived — 35-year-old Veronica Willoughby of Reading, a 17-year-old and a 13-year-old. Willoughby told deputies the passenger-side tires left the road, causing her to slide into a ditch. Willoughby also said she was unable to get the vehicle back onto the road. Instead, the vehicle hit a culvert and rolled to the passenger side.
The 13-year-old suffered possible minor injuries and was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. The other two people were not listed as hurt. Hardin says all three were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Names for the 13-year-old and 17-year-old are not being released.
