Just over 10 years ago, Jason and Susan Brinkman established Bourbon Cowboy at 605 Commercial. They now say it is time for someone else to operate the business.
Susan Brinkman tells KVOE News the goal was to turn a “chronically vacant” property into something vibrant while working with young adults. She says owning the business has been “some of the hardest work she has done in her life” but “she would do it again in a heartbeat,” with the support of employees, customers and the Emporia area.
Bourbon Cowboy officially opened to the public in 2016. In addition to becoming a popular bar, Bourbon Cowboy has also brought numerous musicians to the address as well as dance lessons and other activities.
Coldwell Banker Emporia Real Estate has the property listed at $835,000. Constructed in 1900, the building has over 11,000 total square feet of available space.
Susan Brinkman says the couple isn’t leaving Emporia in the short term. Susan Brinkman continues work to build the Southwick House transitional housing facility in the 100 block of East Logan, while Jason Brinkman works at the State Library of Kansas.
