The Kansas Arts Commission has announced its grant awardees, and projects in Lyon, Chase and Wabaunsee counties will benefit.
Lyon County has six entities gaining funds:
*Emporia Arts Council: $15,577 in General Operating Support
*Emporia Community Foundation: $7,500 through the Arts Everywhere program
*Emporia First Friday Artwalk Inc: $15,465 in General Operating Support
*Emporia State University: $10,000 through the Arts Everywhere program
*Hetlinger Developmental Services: $20,000 through the Arts Everywhere program
*Kansas Free for Arts: $15,269 in General Operating Support
In Chase County, Camp Wood YMCA gets $20,000 through the Arts Everywhere line item, while the city of Harveyville in Wabaunsee County is receiving $2,928 through the Public Art and Murals program.
The Arts Commission has four categories of support:
*Arts Everywhere
*General Operating Support
*Public Art and Murals
*Visiting Artists
Funding — in this case $1 million for over 100 projects in 35 counties — comes from the Kansas Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Kansas Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland says the state’s arts and culture industry supported almost 50,000 jobs and generated almost $5.5 billion to the state economy in 2023. Stats for last year were not released.
