The Emporia Community Foundation continues announcing grant award winners this summer.
The most recent announcement came Wednesday as the Community Foundation announced recipients of the Morgan Wilkie Fund:
*K-State Research and Extension Lyon County gets $2,500 to continue providing Medicare education sessions during the annual open enrollment period
*Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Serving Lyon County gets $1,500 to match youths with adult mentors
*The Baby Closet of Emporia gets $1,750 to buy “life essentials” for children ages 0-5
The fund was developed by the late Clara Wilkie Sharpe to honor her parents and also to help care for children, women and elderly residents in Lyon County.
This follows $3,000 distributions to several local animal welfare groups through the Anna Mae Grimmett Animal Fund announced July 1, including the Buck Animal Welfare Fund, Buffy Animal Welfare, Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Street Cats Club, Flint Hills Animal Advocates and Humane Society of the Flint Hills. The Wilkie Fund announcement also follows over $25,000 in grants through the Sadie Jones Fund announced late last month, with recipients including Grace United Methodist Church, K-State Research and Extension Lyon County, Little Lyons Childcare and The Baby Closet of Emporia.
