A small fire from late Thursday night in the Emporia city limits has led to an arrest.
Emporia Fire Capt. Greg Davis says crews were called to 132 West 12th shortly before 11:20 pm, finding moderate smoke as they approached the apartment building. Crews also found a small kitchen fire as they investigated and put it out quickly. Davis says the fire did not extend anywhere else in the building.
Meanwhile, Emporia Police arrested an Emporia man and booked him into the Lyon County Jail. Emporia Fire Marshal Stephen Beemer says the fire appears intentionally set by 30-year-old Mitchell Lindsey, a tenant at that address, so Lindsey was arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson. Formal charges are pending.
