Several Kansas lawmakers in Congress are hailing $9 billion worth of cuts and clawbacks as part of a rescissions package approved earlier this week.
Part of that decision was to cut funds originally headed to public TV and National Public Radio. Senator Roger Marshall says both are “left-leaning” organizations and the money spent on them is better cut out of the budget entirely.
Marshall says the spending on public broadcasting symbolizes a deeper problem with federal spending.
Congressman Tracey Mann agrees, saying President Donald Trump :is the first president in two decades to actually do something about our debt and roll back wasteful spending.” Saying earmarks of billions of dollars overseas for LGBTQ movements, voter ID projects and Green New Deal efforts are “highway robbery,” Mann says this was a move to “restore fiscal responsibility in our country.”
