Like always, Olpe Downhome kept the southern Lyon County community hopping well into the night Saturday.
And as usual, activities started around sunrise with breakfast, a bike ride and 5K run/walk to get the event started. Fishing, a vendor fair, car show, volleyball, music, food, a parade, wacky games and a parade were among a day’s worth of highlights.
Organizer Monica Meyers says the event is a point of pride for lifelong residents such as herself.
Meyers also says there is another point of pride coming soon: the long-awaited splash pad coming to Olpe Jones Park.
Meyers says the new splash pad will be a great attraction for the community.
Fundraising has been underway for years and got a significant boost when the project was included in the Olpe Fitness Park. The current goal is to start construction as early as this fall, but block grant guidelines say construction has to start no later than spring 2026.
