Lyon County deputies are reporting a scam effort using the name of a current staffer.
Deputies say they were notified late last week of somebody claiming to be Dan Evans and claiming a victim had two outstanding federal warrants. The victim was directed to turn themselves in and call a bondsman 72 hours later or contact a recommended bondsman, pay $750 for each warrant and finish the clearing process at the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office has a Dan Evans now working as a Lyon County Courthouse security officer, but the department says it will never contact anybody about federal warrants. It will also not tell people of potential warrants over the phone and then request payment to clear the warrants. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office also says a big sign of a scam is when a caller wants a potential victim to stay on the line for the duration of the process.
