Hot and steamy conditions are still expected across the KVOE listening area this week.
Air temperatures are expected in the upper 90s both Tuesday and Wednesday, with peak heat index readings as high as 102.
The heat comes as the Lyon County Fair got started this past weekend, but Lyon County Extension Ag Agent Brian Rees says many of the early activities are taking place inside.
Rees also says the typical heat-related precautions noted elsewhere apply during the fair.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army of Emporia is now a cooling center as conditions warrant — and, in fact, the Salvation Army is serving as two cooling locations because the main office at 327 Constitution and the thrift store at 502 Constitution are both available during normal business hours. KVOE News will update you on additional cooling locations as that information is announced.
