Separate aggravated arson cases in Emporia are now officially moving into court proceedings.
Mitchell Lindsey, age 30 of Emporia, had his first appearance Monday and will have a preliminary hearing Aug. 5. Lindsey faces one official count of aggravated arson after allegedly setting a small kitchen fire at the College Apartments, 132 West 12th, late Thursday night. Prosecutors say at least one person was in the building at the time of the alleged incident.
Separately, Uriel Sevilla, 26 of Emporia, now faces several charges after allegedly setting a fire inside 10 West Grill + Dive Bar, 10 West 11th, late Friday night. Sevilla is charged with single counts of attempted aggravated arson and criminal use of explosives along with two counts of aggravated assault. Sevilla is accused of lighting an incendiary device with at least five people inside the business at the time of the alleged incident.
Sevilla had his first court appearance Tuesday and will have a preliminary hearing Aug. 4.
