An improvement project at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 is moving forward…just not now.
Post leaders wanted to install a French drain on the north side of the group’s longtime headquarters at 932 Graphic Arts during the weekend. Leaders requested volunteers and also said they were willing to pay people to help, and there was initial interest but not enough to move forward this weekend. Post Commander Phil Sickler says the goal now is to partner with Coffman Construction for the drainage work.
This development comes as the post membership decided earlier this year to sell the building as a way to climb out of longstanding financial issues after the post inadvertently failed to make tax payments to the Internal Revenue Service from 2014-2018 and lost its non-profit status as a result. While the post makes its third attempt to regain its non-profit designation, it continues to stress its plan to remain active in the community through scholarships, veteran-related ventures and other projects.
