Back-to-school activities are heating up, and not strictly for area schools.
The Salvation Army has its second back-to-school assistance event Tuesday. Capt. Mylie Hadden says this offers vouchers for families needing help getting into the school year.
Residents hoping for vouchers need certain information before the process starts.
Hadden says interested residents need to gather at the Salvation Army Annex, 209 West Fourth, from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Call 620-342-3093 with questions.
Meanwhile, as USD 253 Emporia and other area districts plan to have donations covering all or many school supplies, Walmart and the Salvation Army are busy with a “Stuff the Bus” effort this upcoming Saturday. Residents are asked to bring items like Kleenex, lockable plastic bags, wet wipes, hand sanitizers, notebooks, paper, binders, folder, backpacks, writing utensils and lunch boxes between 10 am and 2 pm.
