The 2025 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive got off to a great start Wednesday.
That’s according to American Red Cross spokesperson Susan Faler, who tells KVOE News the day one blood collection goal was met thanks to a tremendous turnout from the community despite some minor equipment issues at their host location, Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church.
A total of 70 pints of usable blood was collected and Faler is hoping for similar results the next two days; however, she says the list of appointments is a bit thinner for Thursday and Friday.
Battle of the Badges will continue Thursday from noon to 6 pm and Friday from 8 am to 2 pm at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, you can do so through the redcrossblood.org, the Red Cross Blood Donor app using the sponsor code Emporia, or by calling 800-RED-CROSS. After their donations, residents will also be able to vote for their favorite first-responder agency – Emporia Police, Emporia Fire, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Lyon County Emergency Communications – with the highest vote getter taking home the traveling trophy.
