Kansas Congressman Derek Schmidt is pleased with the progress on the National Defense Authorization Bill.
Schmidt, a recent guest on KVOE’s Morning Show, says the bill is critical for setting defense policy.
This particular bill involves pay raises and what Schmidt calls more strategic components.
Schmidt is also the first Kansas congressman to serve on the Armed Services Committee since 2008. He says this restores a longstanding tradition of a Kansan on that committee.
This bill will appropriate nearly $850 billion for the US Department of Defense, as well as over $30 billion for Department of Energy national security initiatives and another $6 billion in general transfer authority in case currently unforeseen needs arise later.
