An Emporia State building had more emergency traffic outside it than normal early Sunday.
A reported structure fire just before 6 am at Cram Science Hall triggered responses by Emporia Fire, Americus Fire and Olpe Fire, as well as ESU Police and Safety. Fire crews found light smoke coming out of the roof, but Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says there was no actual fire. Instead, a compressor belt disintegrated to cause the smoke.
No injuries were reported. Damage reports are pending.
