The Emporia Police Department has developed a new partnership as a way to help victims and witnesses of criminal activity.
Emporia Police has joined with Project Beloved and has opened what the department calls a soft interview room to give a “safe, supportive and trauma-informed space” for victims and witnesses. The room is inside the Police Department headquarters and contrasts with the traditional clinical feels of law enforcement interview areas as Project Beloved donated soft lighting, comfortable seats and “thoughtful” decor.
Police Chief Ed Owens says the partnership with Project Beloved is designed to move the needle in how law enforcement supports victims and puts their emotional well-being first and foremost. Emporia Police says the new space also strengthens the department’s commitment to using trauma-informed best practices so victims feel supported.
Police Capt. Lisa Hayes will join KVOE’s Newsmaker segment at 7:20 am Monday with more information.
