Stormont Vail Health has announced the tentative construction schedule for its new medical office space in far west Emporia.
Marketing and Communications Specialist Taylor Bugg says construction will begin with groundbreaking next spring. It will be 2028 before the facility is fully built.
Stormont says its nearly $45 million Emporia clinic at West 18th and Road G will feature new technology, state-of-the-art virtual and telemedicine equipment and other features designed to enhance the experience for patients and their families.
Artist renderings are the first public step in this process since Emporia city commissioners approved a development agreement and zoning adjustments with Stormont Vail earlier this summer. Stormont began privately mentioning its plans to vacate its current Cotton O’Neil space inside Newman Regional Health in August 2023, with the conversation going public in late October 2023. The two hospital systems have disagreed — at times strenuously — over the last two years as Newman Regional Health has mentioned significant concerns about the Stormont building’s potential financial impact to Newman Regional, notably with duplicative services like imaging. Stormont’s development agreement with the city of Emporia puts a six-year moratorium on ambulatory surgery at the Stormont building.
