Emporia Police have now arrested a second driver in connection with a crash apparently connected to a street racing incident.
Capt. Ray Mattas says officers and detectives used surveillance camera footage to identify a black sedan allegedly involved in Thursday’s incident where a Mustang crashed into a third sedan at apparently high speed in the 300 block of East Sixth. Once the sedan information was confirmed, officers found the vehicle, identified the driver and arrested the driver. Mattas says officers cannot release the driver’s name due to the suspect’s age.
Mattas also says the Police Department thanks everybody who helped as the investigation has reached this point. Mattas says officers “made significant progress” Friday, and he says outside assistance “was instrumental” in moving the case forward.
Formal charges are pending against the driver of the black car and the driver of the Mustang, identified Thursday as 31-year-old Patricio Morales. Officers have said Morales was leading the black sedan when Morales’ car hit a car driven by 26-year-old Ahmad Scott as Scott’s car was turning westbound from an alley in the 500 block of Exchange. The crash sent both Scott and 25-year-old Malik Dorsey to Newman Regional Health. The severity of injuries to Scott and Dorsey have not been released.

Emporia Police officers continue investigating after an injury crash apparently connected to a street race or non-law-enforcement chase.
Police Capt Ray Mattas says officers responded to the site of an injury crash in the 300 block of East Sixth just before 5 pm and determined three vehicles were involved in the overall incident. A white 2000 Ford Mustang driven by 31-year-old Patricio Morales was eastbound on East Sixth and was being closely followed by an unknown black sedan, possibly a Mercedes-Benz or BMW. Both vehicles were allegedly traveling at high speeds when the Mustang collided with another car driven by 31-year-old Ahmad Scott, who was turning westbound onto Sixth from an alleyway in the 500 block of Exchange. The wreck sent Scott’s car into a house at 527 Exchange.
Both Scott and his passenger, 25-year-old Malik Dorsey, were taken to Newman Regional Health with unknown injuries. Morales, meanwhile, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery.
The black vehicle fled the scene and remains both unidentified and at large at last word.
