As Stormont Vail Health begins the early stages of building a new facility in west Emporia, it has also been recently recognized for its care in different categories.
Stormont Vail recently received the American College of Cardiology’s Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, demonstrating what the hospital calls “sustained achievement” in the registry for two straight years — 2023 and 2024 — while performing at the highest levels for certain performance benchmarks as specified by the ACC and American Heart Association.
Also, Stormont recently received recognition as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas after demonstrating low complication and readmission rates, augmented recovery protocols, ongoing participation in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield BlueCard PPO network and accreditation as a hospital or ambulatory surgery center.
Stormont Vail also received an “A” hospital safety grade from the national nonprofit watchdog entity The Leapfrog Group. That grading looks at infections, injuries and preventable errors.
Stormont Vail plans to build a nearly $45 million medical facility near West 18th and Road G between spring 2026 and 2028 as it moves long-occupied Cotton O’Neil space at Newman Regional Health. Vice President of Strategy and Regional Development Mary Martell says administrators “are excited to bring expanded access to high-quality care and services to the area.”
