Rails to Trails Conservancy has announced its 2025 choice for its Hall of Fame.
The national organization announced Flint Hills Trail State Park overwhelmingly won the public vote, claiming over 80 percent to receive the honor. East Central Regional Rail Trail in Florida and Murdock Canal Trail in Utah split the remaining votes.
RTC President Ryan Chao says Flint Hills Tral “stands out as a prime example of how trails bring joy, provide cultural and historic connection, and deliver economic opportunity—all critical to quality of life across America. This trail has catalyzed the state’s trail economy and will serve as inspiration for countless communities to emulate.”
According to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly, “This honor is a testament to the natural beauty of our state and the commitment of Kansans who have worked to preserve it.”
Flint Hills Trail currently covers 93 miles and eventually stretch almost 120 miles from Osawatomie to Herington. Towns in the KVOE listening area along or near the trail include Osage City, Miller, Admire, Allen, Bushong and Council Grove.
Established as a state park in 2018, the trail connects to the Prairie Spirit Trail State Park, a prior RTC Hall of Fame inductee, as well as other state attractions like the John Brown Memorial Park and Museum State Historic Site and Allegawaho Heritage Memorial Park. It is also part of the American Discovery Trail and was recognized as a National Recreation Trail by the US Department of the Interior in 2020.
