The Emporia Public Library is inching closer to installing some unique benches across town as a way to increase internet access.
Last week, the library gained a nearly $50,000 grant from the state through its Advancing Digital Opportunities to Connect Kansans program. Library Director Pauline Stacchini (stuh-KEE-nee) says this actually connects to another state grant announced last year.
Stacchini says the benches, which will essentially be solar-powered hot spots, will be easy to maintain. There are already several partners lined up to have the benches at their locations.
Other locations may be added later.
Stacchini sees this project as benefitting everybody, but especially those who don’t have any internet access
An installation timetable is pending. More information is available online at emporialibrary.org.
