Setup has begun for The Wall That Heals following its well-attended arrival in Emporia early Tuesday afternoon.
Organizers wasted no time building the exhibit’s apex in advance of full display setup starting Wednesday morning just west of Emporia’s American Legion Post 5. The wall will be available for public viewing from Thursday morning through early Sunday afternoon.
A large throng of motorcycles, classic vehicles, military vehicles, law enforcement vehicles and fire trucks were part of the convoy accompanying the hauling semi from Lebo to Emporia. The wall is a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC, and it bears the names of the better than 58,000 American soldiers who died during the war. Organized by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, the exhibit also includes a mobile education center.
Emporia is among 31 stops on this year’s tour. This is the 30th year for The Wall That Heals tours across the country.
