Formal charges have been filed against a juvenile allegedly involved in Emporia’s street racing crash incident from last week. And Lyon County Attorney Amy Aranda has named the defendant.
Aranda says Fernando Rodriguez-Williams, age and hometown not specified, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery. A hearing date has not been announced.
The charges against Rodriguez-Williams come shortly after an adult, 31-year-old Patricio Morales of Emporia, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery and single counts of reckless driving and racing on highways. His first court appearance is Aug. 20.
The naming of Rodriguez-Williams essentially completes the narrative in how Emporia Police officers believe the incident unfolded shortly before 5 pm Thursday. Morales and Rodriguez-Williams were allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed in the 300 block of East Sixth when Morales’ car broadsided another car driven by Ahmad Scott of Emporia. Scott and a passenger, Malik Dorsey were taken to Newman Regional Health with unspecified injuries. Morales was arrested shortly after the incident, while Rodriguez-Williams allegedly fled the scene and was arrested later.
