The Howe House Hoist is returning to the community calendar.
Lyon County History Center Director Greg Jordan says the second Hoist is taking place Sept. 6.
Jordan says there’s more than just hefting these stones. Contestants have to get the stones to stay on a three-foot pedestal.
The Hoist is a collaborative effort involving the History Center, Good Muscle — which is taking all the registrations — and Emporia Spanish Speakers CEO LeLan Dains. It is also comes as the History Center has a busy September ahead, including:
*Good Way Gardens monthly concert, 4-6 pm Sept. 7
*Participation in the Great American Market all day Sept. 13, as well as the Emporia Nine vintage baseball game at the Howe House Farmstead starting at 10:30 am
*Crazy quilt stitching workshop, 10 am Sept. 27
*Latino Awards Adelante celebration, noon Sept. 27
