An Emporia man accused of charges ranging from aggravated robbery to aggravated kidnapping to aggravated indecent liberties is moving closer to trial after a hearing this week.
Daniel Olivarez had a motion hearing Thursday and saw an additional charge of aggravated witness or victim intimidation added. Olivarez now has 14 counts against him in Lyon County District Court, including:
*One of aggravated residential burglary
*One of aggravated battery
*One of aggravated kidnapping
*Two of kidnapping
*Three of aggravated assault
*One of aggravated robbery
*One of criminal threat
*One of violating a protection order
*One of interference with law enforcement
*One of aggravated indecent liberties
Olivarez has been accused of holding several people inside an Emporia home at gunpoint, having one of the alleged victims drive him to another location and then forcing a better than three-hour standoff before surrendering to local authorities as part of an alleged incident in January 2024. The indecent liberties count involves alleged activity against a then-10-year-old between April and December 2023.
Arraignment is set for Aug. 28. Jury trial is tentatively set for Nov. 3-7, with a trial status hearing Oct. 29.
