Two notable street resurfacing projects begin next week in Emporia.
Weaver Street will get resurfaced from East Sixth to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. This will mean no thru traffic between US Highway 50 and the railroad. It will also mean eastbound heavy trucks have to detour at Commercial Street, going south to South Avenue and then east. Westbound heavy trucks leaving the Industrial Park III exits will have to take South Avenue to Commercial Street and head north to US-50.
The city estimates a two-week construction period at maximum, weather permitting.
Separately, Prairie Street closes to thru traffic from 12th to 15th. This project will include pavement removal, concrete pours an cure time. This project should last about a week.
