Students at Emporia State University and Flint Hills Technical College were already given warm welcomes as they got into their class schedules over the last week-plus. The community had its turn with the Welcome Back Block Party along Commercial Street on Monday.
As usual, the event was organized by Emporia Main Street. Community Development Coordinator Jessica Buchholz. She says the event is designed to develop connections between students and local businesses, notably downtown merchants.
ESU Provost Brent Thomas was glad to see students move into residence halls last week and get ready for the start of classes Monday. With students getting into an active schedule, Thomas encourages them to savor different moments as they arise.
Flint Hills Technical College President Caron Daugherty appreciates the interactions that unfold during the block party.
