The Kansas Highway Patrol says a car driven by 21-year-old Jonathan Stevens was fleeing eastbound on US Highway 50 after an incident that apparently started with an attempted traffic stop on the Kansas Turnpike southbound near the Matfield Green service exit. Shortly before 9:15 pm, Stevens’ car went left of center near Cedar Point and hit a semi power unit driven westbound by 53-year-old Kip Hildebrand of Hutchinson.
Stevens suffered potentially minor injuries and was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. He was released and now has been booked into the Chase County Jail on suspicion of attempted flee and elude, speeding, attempted reckless driving, attempted possession of marijuana and transporting an open container of alcohol. Hildebrand was not hurt.
Additional details are currently pending.
Separately, an Emporia woman suffered apparently minor injuries after a crash north of Emporia around 10 pm Tuesday.
