The city of Emporia is working to resolve an issue that has developed with its new utility billing system.
Communications Manager Christine Torrens says the Cycle 2 bills went out with the words “Past Due! Please Pay Immediately” printed across the top of the statements. She says there are a few things for utility customers to keep in mind:
*Payments already made are in the “Payments Received” part of the bill and are accurate
*The “Total Amount Due,” highlighted in blue ink, is the correct balance for the billing cycle. Cycle 2 customers have bills due by Sept. 8
On KVOE’s Morning Show earlier this week, City Finance Director Janet Harrouff said customers shouldn’t have to worry about extra charges or service shutoffs this month.
Harrouff says the city has four billing cycles per month, and the bills themselves look a lot different than the prior version.
Torrens says the city apologizes for the confusion and is working with the billing system developer to get this handled. Residents with questions can email utilities@emporiaks.gov.
