With payment scams continuing to swirl — and continuing to target both the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Turnpike — the Turnpike Authority has launched a new secure phone payment option for customers.
The KTA says customers can make card payments at any time, day or night, by calling 800-USE-KTAG and following the prompts. Customers need their account ID and a valid credit — American Express, Discover, Mastercard or Visa — to use the system.
The new system is part of DriveKS, the existing payment system for Kansas tolls. The Turnpike Authority says it complies with current banking industry standards. Customers can either pay their full amount or part of their balance, and they have the option of receiving a confirmation code or text receipt once they pay.
This follows months of scam efforts targeting the KTA and KDOT, where scammers send text messages saying people have overdue bills and could face the suspension of their drivers licenses, fines and other steps if they don’t click the false links in the messages.
