The goal has been set as the United Way of the Flint Hills begins the public portion of its 2025-26 fundraising campaign.
At the campaign kickoff Thursday, Drive Chair Yahaira Ibarra announced a goal of $500,000. To Ibarra, though, just as important as the goal is the journey.
With that in mind, Ibarra says the campaign will rely on everybody’s “superpowers” to succeed.
On KVOE’s On-Air Chat on Wednesday, United Way Executive Director Daphne Mertens mentioned the increased need being seen by the United Way and its better than 20 Community Partners. On Thursday, she says that challenge energizes her and the United Way’s local team.
Mertens also said both Wednesday and Thursday the office staff plans to take a more active role in this effort.
The United Way is into a Day of Giving campaign now through Sept. 9, culminating in a drawing for two tickets and a parking pass for the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl rematch on Sept. 14. Mertens has promised more community engagement activities along with the traditional workplace campaigns over the next several months.
