The inaugural Lawn Fest Friday evening had all of the ingredients of a great lawn party: fresh ice cream, a great crowd, tremendous atmosphere and terrific music.
The ice cream was provided by the staff of Red Rocks Historic Site, which provided the atmosphere for the large turnout of community members who enjoyed the music from regulars of the Lyon County Front Porch Jam Series. Front Porch Jams teamed up with Red Rocks for the latest event as part of the historic site’s 20th anniversary year celebration, a team-up that Front Porch Jams founder Jeanna Scheve says is a perfect fit.
Noting the history of musicians who have been invited to the historic home of William Allen White throughout the years, Scheve says it was an honor to get to play on its steps.
In addition to the ice cream and music, visitors to the site on Friday night were able to enjoy tours of the home, yard games and more as part of the festivities. 20th anniversary activities will continue throughout the remainder of the year.
You can find more information on Red Rocks online at Kansashistory.gov or by finding the site on Facebook.
Red Rocks opened to the public as a state historic site back in 2005 and hosts several programs throughout the year to honor and preserve the legacy of White and the White family.
