Samples have been collected as Lyon County Rural Water District 3 works toward getting part of its coverage area out from under a boil water advisory.
Spokesman Bob Miller says the southern standpipe near Kansas Highway 99 and Road 50 was flushed Saturday morning before samples were collected.
The alert was issued late Thursday afternoon after a water line broke in the 400 block between Roads J and K earlier in the day. It took until Friday evening to find the leak and make repairs.
Miller says the plan is to submit Saturday’s water samples to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for testing and analysis Monday. There is a chance the affected part of the district may be cleared from the boil water advisory at some time Tuesday, but currently Miller says Wednesday may be more likely for the alert to be lifted.
The boil water advisory only affects areas served by the southern standpipe. Areas served by the district’s west standpipe near Olpe City Lake have not been part of the advisory.
