Believe it or not, the National Teachers Hall of Fame and KVOE are into planning for the annual fundraising radio auction.
Hall of Fame Director Maddie Fennel says the auction will be Nov. 20.
Preparation for the auction comes as nominations for the 2026 induction class have bloomed.
This is well ahead of last year’s total of around 80 and what had been the standard number of around 30 total nominations.
Preparation also comes as the Hall of Fame is seeking funds to expand the National Memorial to Fallen Educators outside Emporia State University’s One-Room Schoolhouse, reflecting the need to recognize more teachers killed in the line of duty for various reasons. Fennell says it costs more than $40,000 to purchase, engrave and install a granite tablet as part of the recognition work.
As usual, the Nov. 20 auction will take place at the Emporia State Federal Credit Union Industrial Road branch. Activities will take place from 6-9 pm on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE.com/TV.
