We are almost two months out from KVOE’s annual Drive for Food.
The effort Oct. 30 benefits the Salvation Army’s food pantry, which is typically getting pretty bare as summer moves into fall. Salvation Army Capt. Mylie Hadden says that’s the case again right now.
Hadden says this year’s Drive for Food is coming as the Salvation Army puts more emphasis on healthy eating choices.
Proceeds also benefit Spartan Stop at Emporia High.
Typically, the Drive for Food takes place in mid-October, but the food drive has been delayed to align with the USD 253 calendar — specifically to happen during fall parent-teacher conferences.
Residents in and near Emporia are encouraged to contact KVOE with their address, either by calling 620-342-1400, emailing kvoe@kvoe.com or messaging the KVOE Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line at 620-342-5863. KVOE staffers and volunteers will stop at those addresses to pick up any and all food donations not delivered to several drop-off locations across town. The list will be announced on KVOE and KVOE.com soon.
