Blue-green algae alerts continue for three local and two area lakes as the Labor Day weekend progresses.
In Emporia, the Peter Pan Park pond remains in an algae warning, as do Emporia State University’s King Lake and Wooster Lake. In Osage County, Melvern Outlet River Pond remains in an algae warning, while Melvern Outlet Swim Pond was elevated from an algae watch to a warning this past Friday.
For lakes near the KVOE listening area, Butler State Fishing Lake and Marion County Lake are both in algae watches.
Blue-green algae is harmful to humans and potentially fatal to pets or livestock. More information about algae health concerns, algae reporting procedures, algae health tips and other information including an interactive map is online at kdhe.ks.gov/hab.
