A former Emporia State University professor and longtime education administrator is set for jury trial in Johnson County this upcoming fall.
Howard Pitler is tentatively set for trial to begin Nov. 10. Trial could go through Nov. 14.
Before trial, Pitler is tentatively set for a motion hearing Sept. 17 and a pretrial conference Nov. 5.
Pitler has been facing one count of indecent solicitation since October 2024 after an alleged incident involving a victim under the age of 14 in February 2023.
Pitler was a professor at Emporia State University from 2018 until shortly after his arrest. He had won state and national honors while he was an administrator at USD 259 Wichita, including Kansas Principal of the Year, National Distinguished Principal, Apple Distinguished Educator and Smithsonian Laureate.
