Throughout September, the Emporia Public Library will be encouraging residents to sign up for a free library card.
While this is not a new initiative for the library, the mission is heightened over the next 30 days as September is library card sign-up month, a national event that began back in 1987. Throughout the month, public and school libraries work to promote the importance and resources that come with acquiring a library card.
In the opinion of Emporia Public Library Director Pauline Stacchini, the card itself is more than just a reflection of one’s patronage or membership to a library; it is a key to connectivity.
Stacchini adds that libraries are the perfect place for connectivity, noting they are about much more than just books nowadays.
