Pockets of heavy rain and hail developed with thunderstorm activity Wednesday evening.
Most of the large hail fell outside the KVOE listening area, with golf ball- to tennis ball-sized hail in several south-central Kansas locations. However, there was a report of ping pong ball-sized hail just northeast of Osage City along with quarter-sized hail reported at Harveyville and Lake Kahola.
Most of the measurable rain apparently fell north of Interstate 35 and US Highway 50.

For now, the rain from Wednesday night hasn’t aggravated any minor flooding that developed near Emporia from Tuesday evening into Wednesday. The Cottonwood River at Emporia crested at 20.33 feet, just above flood stage, and went back in its banks before 11 am. All area rivers are in their banks after 1.5-4.5 inches of rain through the Labor Day weekend.
Several Lyon County roads near Emporia that were closed due to flooding Wednesday have reopened, including
*Road G between 160 and 170
*500 block Road 150
The rain from the weekend has prompted one schedule adjustment. Beacon for Hope Suicide Prevention’s annual Hope with Horsepower car show Saturday is moving from Soden’s Grove to Flinthills Mall.
More rain chances are ahead with showers and storms possible Thursday night through Friday. Up to half an inch of rain is possible.
If you have rain totals or hail reports from Wednesday, message the KVOE Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply text line at 620-342-5863.
