Searchers continue looking for a Herington man with Emporia connections.
James Cole, age 24, apparently started using the Flint Hills Nature Trail at Herington and walked east. An initial report says Cole was tracked to 2800 Avenue and US Highway 56, between Herington and Delavan in western Morris County. Bloodhounds then tracked Cole to Burdick before the scent was lost. Drones have also been used in the search, while law enforcement continues the search at ground level.
Authorities also say Cole had no jacket, no food and no water when he started on the trail around 7:15 am Sunday.
Herington Police says Cole’s information has been shared with area law enforcement agencies, as well as the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and federal agencies.
Cole is a white male, weighing 140 pounds. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He also has extended family near Emporia, but it’s unclear whether he was traveling here. Authorities believe he is traveling by foot.
